This is the Scottish experience 'distilled'. It gives you a taste of three classic Scottish ingredients - castles, lochs and whisky. Done at a relaxed pace, it's perfect for anyone who really wants to savour the true flavour of Scotland.
Our adventure begins as we head west from Edinburgh to our first destination: one of Scotland’s premier Scotch Whisky Distilleries. With 44 bottles of Scotch Whisky shipped every second around the world, no trip to Scotland would be complete without discovering the art behind this iconic drink. At the Clydeside Distillery in Glasgow, you'll explore the whisky-making process and, of course, enjoy a tasting of this fine spirit.
After the distillery, we’ll make our way to our lunch stop, which will be in either Aberfoyle or Balmaha. Aberfoyle, a quaint village at the southern edge of the West Highland Fault, sits at the heart of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. Whether you're keen on wildlife or simply enjoy exploring charming villages, Aberfoyle has something for everyone. You can watch a sheepdog demonstration, learn about local sheep farming, or see a fascinating duck herding display. Alternatively, wander through the village’s shops and be sure to visit the local woollen mill.
Or we’ll head to the picturesque village of Balmaha, nestled by the loch. Here, you can take a short but rewarding hike to Craigie Fort for panoramic views of Loch Lomond, or enjoy a leisurely stroll along the peaceful shores. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes for the walk, and visit the information centre to learn more about the village’s history.
As we pass through Stirlingshire, your guide will bring to life the story of William Wallace, Scotland’s legendary knight. Known worldwide for his role in the fight for Scottish independence, Wallace’s tale is immortalized in the film Braveheart. Your guide will explain Wallace’s connection to the area and the significance of the landscapes you’re passing through.
Next, we’ll spend two hours in the historic city of Stirling, a town steeped in history and culture. Here, you’ll have time to explore Stirling Castle, one of Scotland’s most significant castles, where Mary, Queen of Scots, was crowned. For a change of pace, you can also visit the city’s new gin distillery or take a walk through the medieval streets of the Old Town. As you explore, learn why Stirling is often called the ‘Gateway to the Highlands.’
As we make our way southeast from Stirling, prepare to be amazed by The Kelpies—two towering 30-meter-high horse-head sculptures created by sculptor Andy Scott. These monumental figures are inspired by the mythical shape-shifting creatures from Scottish folklore, known to appear as horses. Your guide will share the fascinating story behind the Kelpies and explain their symbolic presence at this incredible site.
